Start with an action, not a promise
Write the task you want to accomplish using a verb: save, listen, remember an appointment, organize or review. Then ask which specific feature lets you do it and what you need to use it. A product description that answers those questions is easier to compare than a list of adjectives.
Separate what is usable now from what is announced for a launch. Ask for a clear explanation when an image is conceptual or a feature remains in development. You can then decide whether you need something available today or want to learn about a future product.
Check what supports each claim
MedlinePlus recommends checking who publishes health information, its sources and its date. A reference about the general benefits of sleep does not by itself demonstrate the effect of a specific product.
If a brand attributes a health outcome to its device, look for evidence about that device and outcome. If you cannot find it, record an unanswered question. Do not turn a visual demonstration, animation or personal experience into clinical evidence.
Your decision worksheet: six questions
This editorial tool from ASTRATECH does not provide a medical score or recommend a brand. Write an answer to each question and mark it “clear” or “unanswered”.
- What will I do? Describe a specific action and the feature that enables it. If your answer is broad, narrow the task until you can explain it in one sentence.
- What is included today? Note the confirmed device, app and accessories. Separate included items from optional ones and features planned for later.
- Will it fit my day? Check compatibility, charging, connectivity and the steps involved. Ask for missing details rather than assuming them from an image.
- What will I pay? Separate the purchase, shipping and subscription. Write down when each charge starts and what happens if you stop using the service.
- What happens to my content? Ask what you can save, review, download or delete. Record documented answers and keep unanswered questions visible.
- What will I decide now? Choose whether to request information, compare another option or continue with a purchase. You do not have to buy something for this exercise to be useful.
Review permissions and timing
The FTC advises reviewing app permissions and turning off unnecessary access. Before uploading a personal recording, read how the provider explains its use of that content.
The CDC advises turning off electronic devices at least 30 minutes before bedtime. An app can help organize things earlier: owning wellness technology does not require keeping a screen on until you fall asleep.
Apply the questions to DeepMind
DeepMind by ASTRATECH is a wellness device worn at the temple, with a personal app and cloud storage. It includes a library of audio and videos selected by the user and a voice journal for saving personal content.
The device costs US$299, with shipping quoted for your destination. App + cloud costs US$19.90 per month or US$238.80 per year from activation. Launch is December 20, 2026. You can request your total including shipping without that request incurring a charge.
Explore the DeepMind app and cloud and choose how to organize your audio, videos and voice notes in your personal space.
